Gainesville Writers Group Welcomes New Leaders
It’s always bittersweet when leadership changes happen. You’re excited to see new leaders step forward and take the opportunity to serve, but it’s sad to see others who have served so well moving out of that role.
April Fitzgerald has led this group for more than a year, and was a pleasure to work with as a dedicated volunteer at the 2009 conference. Aside from her wonderful work helping coordinate writers’ appointments with agents and publishers at the conference, she’s build the club up to a vibrant, active group within the association as a whole. Thank you, April for your contributions!
Sheila Green and Angela Cheney will now be co-leaders of the Gainesville Writers Group. Sheila and her husband Chad were exhibitors at the 2009 conference, representing Diana Kay Publishing.
Sheila grew up in Live Oak, Florida and lives in Gainesville. Among her more interesting roles, she was the director of the Mel Tillis and Friends Fishing Tournament in 2007 and 2008, benefiting the Shiners Hospital for Children. She’s been an editor for a number of e-book companies.
Angela has been an avid reader and writers for ages. She’s a published author and has also done editing work. She loves working with authors to make their stories come to life. She works in law enforcement and lives in Gainesville with her son and her dog Jack.
Together, Sheila and Angela have formed an online writers magazine, Diana Kay Publishing, designed to help writers in Florida and Georgia. Their magazine includes helpful articles to inspire writers. They have also recently opened an e-book company called Sea Crest Books.
The FWA would like to welcome Sheila and Angela as group leaders and thank them for taking this role on. The Gainesville Writers Group meets on the third Thursday of every month at the Millhopper Branch of the Alachua County Public Library (on Millhopper Road in Gainesville), but their February meeting will be at the Foundation Room in the Public Library headquarters in downtown Gainesville.

Are the meetings open to all who enjoy writing?
Is there an entry fee?
Other than pen and paper to take notes, what should an attendee bring?
Thank you for your response.

I don’t have lots of internet access right now. I’ll get back to you later this week. In the meantime, please check the groups page on http://www.floridawriters.net.
It doesn’t look like the Gainesville group is currently active, as I look on the groups page of the website. To find the next closest group, you can go to http://floridawriters.net/Our_Writers_Groups.html.
