“Secret Ingredients for a Chicken Soup Story” – Friday, October 19, 1:30-3:00 PM
Do you have a story to tell? This workshop will explore how you can turn your cherished memories, personal triumphs, and funny stories into marketable submissions for the best-selling Chicken Soup for the Soul series and similar creative non-fiction markets. Through examples and exercises, you’ll learn how to recognize the extraordinary story hiding in ordinary moments. You’ll discover how to blend the ingredients of fiction writing with your true tale to cook up a winning story recipe. You’ll examine three pitfalls that lead to automatic rejection. Finally, you’ll explore the market to better understand opportunities for publication. For the more seasoned writer, this session will also cover how to expand your reach beyond the printed page through speaking engagements, book signings, and other social media outlets that allow you to connect with your audience.
To see Madeleine by special appointment, check the website prior to the conference or the FWA registration desk at the conference. Note: Conference attendance is required for interviews.
