Meet the Faculty: Jamie Morris
Jamie Morris, Author & Book Consultant
Jamie Morris is a book-coach and writing workshop leader who brings community-oriented leadership, cooperative learning techniques—and what some call a literary “sixth sense”—to her work with writers. Central Florida’s first AWA (Amherst Writers & Artists) workshop leader, Jamie, a CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) Master Writing Consultant, FWA member, and graduate of the Rollins College Writing Program, works with fiction and non-fiction writers around the country. Backstory: A Fine Balance- Parts I & II” – with Julie Compton – Friday, October 19, 8:30-10:00 AM & 1:30-3:00 PM
Backstory is essential to the writing of any narrative – long or short, fiction or memoir. Used correctly, backstory adds depth to plot; reveals character; varies pacing; and creates suspense. Used incorrectly, backstory can bring readers to a grinding halt, muddy plot, and dissipate hard-earned literary tension! In this two-part workshop, internationally published author Julie Compton and writing coach and Director of Woodstream Writers, Jamie Morris, will show you how to avoid those pitfalls and make the most of backstory.
“Let’s Write Prose!” – Two (2) One-hour prose writing sessions on Saturday & Sunday mornings, 7:00 – 8:00 AM
In this participation-heavy format, writers write to a prompt, and share their work aloud with the group.
To see Amy by special appointment (for topics other than critiques), check the website prior to the conference or the FWA registration desk at the conference. Note: Conference attendance is required for interviews.
