Interview a hero!
By Susan Boyd
From children to adults, we all love our heroes! This year’s Silent Auction, sponsored by the Florida Writers Foundation, gives you the unique opportunity to bid on an interview with a real-life hero.
Lake Mary Police Officer Zachary Hudson was chosen a 2012 CNN Hero for his outstanding contributions to Florida senior citizens. He was also honored with the 2010 Police Service Award at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) convention and featured in a Parade magazine article.
Appalled by the living conditions of senior citizens he encountered, Officer Hudson founded the Seniors Intervention Group (SIG), a nonprofit organization dedicated to sustaining and improving the quality of life for elderly citizens. That was in 2009. Since its inception, SIG has assisted almost 1,000 seniors.
Now Officer Hudson has offered to share his experiences with you. He has donated two hours of his time to be interviewed by a high bidder at the Florida Writers Foundation’s Silent Auction, a fundraiser held during the annual Florida Writers Association Conference October 19-21, 2012. If you’re the high bidder, you could interview Officer Hudson as a resource for your own novel or for an article for a magazine; you and Zach determine your best avenue for capitalizing on this opportunity.
The Florida Writers Foundation is a 501[c]3 nonprofit corporation specifically formed to promote literacy and enhance the writing skills of children, youth, and adults. Donations to FWF through the Silent Auction are tax deductible. Dozens of other prizes are up for auction, including tickets to Disney World and SeaWorld, books by bestselling authors, certificates for professional writing services, and the chance for your name to appear as a character in an internationally bestselling novel. Check the Silent Auction website to see the growing list of prizes.
We hope to see you at the Silent Auction and the Florida Writers Conference: October 19-21 at the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary.
What would you ask a CNN Hero? What other prizes would you like for yourself or your family and friends?
