Vic DiGenti to headline Florida Writers Foundation Celebrity Fundraiser
As previously noted, Vic DiGenti is the new headliner for the Florida Writers Foundation celebrity fundraiser October 18 at the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary. Chris Coward, our amazing Marketing Director, sent out a media release. Though we aren’t exactly mainstream media, we figured we should post it, too!
Lake Mary, Florida – September 24, 2012 – Some last-minute changes in the lineup of the Florida Writers Foundation’s October 18 Celebrity Workshop has created a chance for readers and writers to hear one of Florida’s finest, brightest (and most cat-loving) mystery writers talk about the topic he knows best.
Vic DiGenti (also writing as Parker Francis) is the author of the Windrusher series and the Quint Mitchell Mysteries, which include the award-winning Matanzas Bay and soon-to-be-released Bring Down the Furies. He’ll spend an entire day with a group of lucky writers focusing on techniques to create suspense—a useful topic since virtually all genres, from memoir to mainstream fiction, need suspense to keep readers engaged.
The workshop, which runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. October 18 and includes lunch, offers something for all writers, from aspiring to advanced. The annual event is a fundraiser for the Florida Writers Foundation (FWF), a charitable organization that promotes literacy. FWF is a sister organization to the Florida Writers Association (FWA), which will hold its annual conference in the same hotel October 19-21.
“We’re excited to have Vic as the presenter,” said Chrissy Jackson, president of FWA and vice president of FWF. “You leave his workshops pumped to write and armed with all kinds of new ideas.”
“We’ve got one of those ‘door closes, window opens’ opportunities dropped in our literary-lovin’ laps!” said Jamie Morris, longtime member of the Florida Writers Association, faculty member for FWA’s annual conference, and professional writing coach. Vic’s topic will cover much the same ground that of the originally scheduled speaker, R.J. Ellory, who had to withdraw from participation.
Florida Writers Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable literacy foundation, promotes literacy throughout Florida. All donations to the Foundation, including registration fee for DiGenti’s workshop, may be tax deductible.
Florida Writers Association, Inc., some 1,400 members strong and growing, is a nonprofit 501(c)(6) organization that supports established and emerging writers. Membership is open to the public, and membership forms are posted on FWA’s website, FloridaWriters.net. Among the many member benefits, members may attend the annual conference and attend as many local meetings as they wish, choosing from more than 50 chapters around the state.
Both the Celebrity Workshop and Florida Writers Annual Conference will be held at the at Orlando Marriott Lake Mary hotel, 1501 International Parkway, Lake Mary, FL 32746. Registration for the Celebrity Workshop is $95 for FWA members and $115 for nonmenbers and can be paid online, by check, or by credit card.
