FINALLY…After leaving behind a trial of frustration, Gulf Winds, the 2007 FPLA Mystery/Thriller unpublished novel winner, has been released. Visit with me at the 3 July Wesley Chapel meeting to hear how I beat the publishing industry into the ground – or was ground up by the publishing industry – whichever your point of view.
John
Chris, I wrote a blog piece for you if you want it…it’s about writing and ties into NATIONAL S’MORES DAY on AUGUST 10TH. Let me know which email to send and I’ll attach, and send ASAP.
All best, Dianne Ochiltree
I notice that Robert Brown will be at the Florida Conference. But his website says he’s not accepting any queries. Any suggestions? I’m a cozy mystery writer and would love to submit a query to him.
Thanks for the input.
Robert and his wife have transitioned to being publishers. However, there’s a full slate of agents that will be at the conference this year. You can see the entire list of agents, as well as other faculty at http://floridawriters.net/uploads/2011_COMPLETE_FACULTY_04032011.pdf.
Are you the CH at the end of Steve Berry’s announcement? If so, exactly how do I sign up for it? And what does it cost? I can’t find that information anywhere]
Gary Pinnell
That information will be coming very soon, along with links to signup costs and other necessary information!
How much does the Thursday workshop cost?
More information about the Thursday sessions, including prices and how to sign up, is forthcoming.
Hi there, trying to access the conference info page, but it is giving me that nasty page not found error. If you could send me the correct link to check the registration, I would be very appreciative!
Best wishes, Nicole
I don’t know where to go with this and have a really dumb question. At the conference in October I received requests from both Amy Boggs and Judith Engracia for partial manuscripts. I sent the material, but haven’t heard back and it’s over three months. Is this a normal wait time? Or rather, how long should I wait before worrying my material was lost and resubmit. Should I even expect a response or assume they’re not interested? This is the first time I’ve had contact with agents and don’t know the procedure.
Thanks to all,
Linda Kelley
Linda, first of all, it’s not a dumb question. Probably the best thing to do is to check whatever websites the agents have and see what they say about how long it takes and when to expect something back. Beyond that, I’m a little reluctant to guide you beyond looking at agent blogs–Rachelle Gardner’s comes to mind–and see what they have to say about it.
Overall, I would say if their website doesn’t address it, it’s probably fair and appropriate to send them a polite e-mail asking if they’ve had a chance to look at it. But I have no real experience with it, so looking at what agents say is probably the best thing to do.
Thanks, Chris. I’d already checked their websites, but neither addressed it.
