“The Querulous Query” – Saturday, October 20, 9:00-10:00 AM
This presentation will discuss the construction of a proper query letter, addressing length, format, and content. Hand-outs will be given showing successful queries and the mistakes writers often make in a query letter, particularly a list of query “pet peeves” as stated by various agents. I will also include samples of my own queries including the evolution of one of them from a dry, business-type letter to a voice-filled, attention-grabbing query that earned many requests for partials and fulls and eventually gained me my first agent representation.

“The Agent/Client Relationship: Beginning to End” with Amy Boggs – Saturday, October 20 – 2:15 – 3:15 PM
Beginning with the query process, we will take participants through the agent/client relationship including the following: when to query; what agents look for in a query; handling rejection; agency contracts; working with your agent (revisions); the submission process; the agent/client/editor relationship; parting ways with your agent (how and why this might happen)

To see Lisa by special appointment, check the website prior to the conference or the FWA registration desk at the conference. Note: Conference attendance is required for interviews.
