New Workshops on Genre Bending, the ePub Revolution, and the ‘Bunny Eat Bunny’ World of Children’s Books

September 23, 2012

If you’ve been trying to decide which workshops to attend at the Florida Writers Annual Conference next month, you’ll want to know about some new, intriguing offerings.

Genre Bending; ePub Revolution: 2 sessions in 1

Saritza Hernandez, ePub agent for the Corvisiero Literary Agency, will offer a Signature Workshop on Friday, October 19. She’ll discuss identifying your genre, one of the toughest and most confusing aspects of the publishing industry. She’ll also discuss genre bending: Is your novel a romantic comedy or women’s fiction? Sci-fi with romantic elements or a sci-fi romance? She’ll offer suggestions on how to select an agent for your genre (or bent genre) and answer questions about some of the publishing industry’s mystifying “rules.”

In the last half of her 90-minute session, Saritza will discuss the changing landscape of the publishing industry and the role of the literary agent in the ePub generation. Saritza’s workshop is offered in lieu of one scheduled for R.J. Ellory, who will not be attending the conference.

Picture Books: Topics, Planning, & Plot

On Saturday, October 20, Rob Sanders, author, editor, and writing resource teacher, will share practical, hands-on strategies to navigate the bunny-eat-bunny world of children’s picture books. You’ll learn how to mash together thoughts and ideas to create original topics for picture books, how to plan a picture book using a graphic organizer, and how to plot out your book to grow the trouble and action. In 60 minutes, you’ll grow a topic, sketch out a plan, and create your initial plot structure. Rob’s workshop is offered in lieu of one scheduled for R.J. Ellory, who will not be attending the conference.
