Work has started on the 2013 Conference
It’s been four weeks since the end of the 2012 conference, and already much has changed. Random House and Penguin are merging. The election is over and we have a new boss–same as the old boss. Baseball ended and the Florida Marlins traded their entire team and half the Everglades to Toronto for a bag of baseballs.
And work has started on next year’s conference. This weekend, most of the executive staff has convened at a secret location–okay, it’s the Orlando Marriott Lake Mary–to lay the groundwork for next year’s conference. At the end of the weekend, we’ll have done most of the initial planning for the twelfth annual conference–The Greatest Writer’s Conference on Earth.
There’s not much for you to do–yet. But with the holidays coming, you might want to ask for some extra cash to get you in for next year. Or, if you’re already flush, for drink money for agents, publishers, and bloggers.
As with each conference since 2009, we’ll be bringing you everything you need to know about next year’s conference and a lot of other information that interests writers. Hopefully, we’ll also load up a healthy slate of guest bloggers, too. Already, we have commitments from Jamie Morris and Peggy Miller to write prose and poetry prompts once a month starting in January.
We’ve also started thinking about an arrangement that will make the conference experience easier, particularly for people who are pitching during the conference. We’ll also have the bookstore and the silent auction, as we do every year. And door prizes and some light entertainment during the drawings–assuming I clean up my diet a little bit. Otherwise, it will be heavy entertainment.
And we’ll have the Royal Palm Literary Awards banquet, along with Open Mic, agent and publisher panels, and some damn fine culinary delights.
