Exercise Wednesday — Exciting News (and Character Blogging)
Starting this very year, we have some professionals who will be helping us out with writing prompts. Starting next week, Jamie Morris will grace us with a prose prompt on the second Wednesday of each month. And on the fourth Wednesday of each month, Peggy Miller will have a prose prompt. Yay!
If you’ve been to the conference, then you recognize them as the people who drag their butts out of bed really early so we get to have a prompt-writing class. If you’ve never been to the conference, consider their prompts just a small preview of what you get when you attend. I hope you’re as excited about this as I am.
For this week, however, you have my prompt. Sure, it’s not as good, but you’re getting what you pay for, right?
For the next year, I’ve agreed to participate in a blog-post-a-day challenge. As a result, any day I don’t write a blog post here, I write one on another blog, which is more personal in nature and less writing-related. So I’m thinking about blogs.
Today’s exercise is for your character to write a blog post. Simple as that. If you blog, use your own experience in figuring out what the character would write. Would they be stumped? Would the dive in eagerly? Depending on your genre, would they even know what a blog post is? (If not, a journal entry works just as well.)
Your finished product doesn’t need to be their blog post, but it could be. Or it could be about the experience of creating the blog post. Maybe they’re blocked, or maybe they blog as part of their job and this is the last post they’ll write. Or maybe it’s the first post they’ll write.
