No Need to Leave Your Spouse or Guest at Home. The Conference Venue Offers Plenty for Nonwriters, too.

August 11, 2013

This is the second year in a row that Barbara, a nonwriter, is joining her husband Mark, a writer, at the annual Florida Writers Conference. Barbara comes not for the workshops or the “business” aspects of the conference, but to enjoy Orlando.

You, too, may wish to bring your spouse or guest, who no doubt will enjoy the area as much as Barbara does.

Barbara loves the change of pace, like a mini-vacation. She enjoys Orlando’s fabulous shopping venues as well asvisiting Disney World, Sea World, Cape Canaveral, Universal Studios, and the beach. While not all of these things are close to the hotel, they’re all convenient. Add the hotel’s fitness center, swimming pool, free WiFi, and other amenities, and Barbara has a great time.

Sometimes Mark and Barbara get together for conference meals. Mark purchases guest meals at Registration, and Barbara receives a badge for admittance to whatever meal(s) they purchase. The not-to-be-missed meal, of course, is the RPLA Banquet on Saturday night, but all conference meals are special events.

At the conference center, Barbara is not admitted to the workshops unless she registers for the conference, but she doesn’t mind—she’s having too much fun taking in Orlando. However, if she did want to attend workshops, she could join FWA and register for the day or days that workshop will be offered.
