SPRING BOARD: WRITERS HELPING WRITERS REACH NEW HEIGHTS: Independent Publishing

March 24, 2014

FWA SOUTH FLORIDA MINI CONFERENCE

WHEN: MARCH 29, 2014, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

WHERE: SHERATON SUITES, 311 NORTH UNIVERSITY DRIVE,

PLANTATION, FLORIDA

As I mentioned in a previous post about the South Florida mini conference, the all-day conference will be divided into three tracks. Today, I will be discussing Track 2,

which is: INDEPENDENT PUBLISHING

It’s a new frontier and many of us have already boldly gone where few others in the past have dared to go: the route of independent and self-publishing.

During this track, there will be a discussion on independent publishing by William Sudah from Expert Subjects, LLC. Trust me, he knows his stuff about publishing and distribution.

Steven Jackson, a published author, owner of Telemachus Press and one of the power minds behind a new website called NovelHelp, will be speaking on the publishing process.

Leona Bodie will talk after lunch about building a better book from the front cover to the back cover and everything in between.

After a break, this room will be combined with the room from Track 1 for the Independent and Self Publishing panel.

If you missed it, look for the previous blog post on the details of Track 1. Information on Track 3 will be posted soon.

I can’t wait to see yon on March 29th!

When I signed up for the conference they didn’t ask me what track to sign up for. In fact I don’t have a program or list of events. Is it posted somewhere or do you just find out when you arrive?

Not sure what the answer to your question is, but I will be sure to bring this comment to the attention of someone who can help.

Good question! Any participant may attend any workshop–the track designations are simply to help folks make the choices that best suit their needs. The mini-conference program is posted at http://www.floridawriters.net/uploads/Plantation_MC_Program_020614.pdf. (If the link doesn’t work, try copy/pasting in your browser.) Hope that helps!

Perhaps I’m missing something but I don’t see anywhere on this program what time the conference starts and what is the schedule? I just see a bio of the presenters….

The flier Chris linked to has the time each workshop begins written in red underneath the person’s pic and bio. If you go to this page (http://floridawriters.net/FWA_Upcoming_Events.html) you can see a listing of each conference coming up with links to detailed information on pricing, times, etc. This flier (linked under the info for the Plantation mini-conference) has the conference running from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM: http://floridawriters.net/uploads/2014_03_29_Plantation_MC_Flier_color.pdf. If you have any other questions, let me know and I will make sure that Chris sees it.

It would be helpful to just have the schedule on one page rather than have to wade through the 26-page document for bits and pieces of who is appearing in what track at what time, etc. It might be helpful so people can plan. You know, maybe like a chart, i.e. Track one 10 am is X, Track two 10 am is Y. Maybe 3 columns, something like that. Just an idea 🙂
